Mohamed Gaber

Professor of Accounting

Dr. Mohamed Gaber is a professor and chair of the department of accounting. He was nominated in 2014 for The U.S. Professor of the Year Award. In 2012, an endowment was established after Dr. Gaber’s name: The Mohamed Gaber Excellence in Mentorship Endowment. He has won several awards and distinctions such as: Outstanding Academic Advisor Award, 2013-2014; The William D. Laundry Special Service Award, May 2013; The Faculty/Staff Impact Award-SUNY Plattsburgh Alumni Association, October 2012; Distinguished Faculty Award-Phi Eta Sigma National Freshman Honor Society, 2007; SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, 2001, and ODK Faculty/Leadership Award, 1999.

Dr. Gaber’s teaching interests encompass several areas in accounting and finance including financial and managerial accounting, intermediate accounting, cost accounting, international accounting, financial statements analysis, and corporate financial management.

Dr. Gaber’s research interests focus on corporate responsibility, voluntary disclosure of corporate earnings, market efficiency, and international accounting standards and its effect on U.S. accounting standard setting. He authored and co-authored several refereed publications and presented his research at national and international conferences. Recent refereed publications include: Account Screening: Rationalizing the Extended Procedures Decision in the Audit Context (Excel International Journal of Multidisciplinary Management Studies:2015); A Protocol of “Accounting Irregularities” Alert Profiling with Small Samples Using Linguistic Inquiry Word Count Program (Journal of Forensic Studies In Accounting and Business:2014); A simple and Fun Approach to an Effective Class Communication (Accounting Instructors’ Report:2012); Using the balance sheet concept to help students understand the current economic crisis (Accounting Instructors’ Report:2010); an edited book on International Accounting: Standards, Regulations, and Financial Reporting (Elsevier Press, 2006); Hedge Funds and the Stale Pricing Issue (2005); Funds of Hedge Funds: Ethics of this Black Box Strategy (Pensions: An International Journal: 2004); Corporate Officers and Directors Seek Indemnification From Personal Liability (New York State Bar Association Journal:2001).

Before joining academia, Dr. Gaber has worked as an internal auditor for a Multinational Land Development Corporation.
