Scholarships
Several scholarships are available annually, particularly the George and Nina Winkel art scholarships. Scholarships are available for incoming freshmen and for sophomore, junior and senior students.
How to Apply for the Scholarships
Applications may be submitted beginning in March with a deadline of April 1 for all scholarships and portfolios are required. Additional information is on the application forms, which are available in the Myers Fine Arts Building, Room 220B, or through the mail by calling (518) 564-2179.
General Scholarships
Winkel Scholarships and Internships
Eligibility: For continuing Plattsburgh State Art Majors who have at least a 3.0 GPA in art courses and incoming freshmen who have declared art as their major. Graduating Art Majors are not eligible for Winkel Scholarships, but they may be eligible for a Winkel Post-Graduate Internship.
Due Date: Applications may be submitted beginning in March with a deadline of April 1.
Internships are awarded in the following areas:
- Winkel Collection Research Internship
- Winkel Undergraduate Internship
- Winkel Post-Graduate Internship.
Jane Prescott Rowlson Award
Eligibility: Art Major with 3.0 GPA (preference given to graduates of Ausable Valley Central School, Plattsburgh, or other Clinton County high schools; but all graduates of a New York State high school are eligible).
Eliot D. Allen Award
Eligibility: Art Major with a B+ or higher average and receives financial aid.
The Tony Papa Memorial Award
Eligibility: This award is given to a graduating senior Art Major by vote of their peers.
Scholarships for Specific Concentrations
The Barbara J. Parnass Scholarship (Photography)
Eligibility: This award is presented to an outstanding student majoring in art with a concentration in photography in their final year of study.
The Glaubinger Scholarship in Visual Arts for Sculpture
Eligibility: This award is presented to an outstanding junior majoring in art with a concentration in sculpture.
William E. Robbins Drawing and Painting Scholarship
Eligibility: Art Major with junior standing (or senior standing for seniors pursuing a formal study of painting and drawing the following semester). Concentration in painting with at least 9 hours of painting plus upper level drawing (preferably 3 hours of 400 level) at Plattsburgh State. Overall GPA of at least 3.0.
