Placement Information

English Requirement for School of Business and Economics (SBE) Students

All students must take the English placement examination before they can register for ENG101, a general education requirement for all students.
Note: Please take this exam very seriously.

Exceptions:
Students who have received transfer credit for ENG 101 with a grade of C or better from an accredited college or university. The official transcript of this credit must be on file in the admissions office and the credit will appear on your transcript and CAPP (Curriculum Advising and Program Planning) report.

Math Requirement for SBE Students

All SBE majors must complete CALCULUS I (SUNY Plattsburgh course: MAT 221 or MAT 224).  This course will not only meet a business cognate requirement but will also fulfill the Math General Education requirement.

Placement Information:
In order for students to be elligible to register for Calculus I, they must meet one of the following requirements:

1. Have a score of 460 for SAT or 16 for ACT to bypass the MAT placement test and have demonstrated knowledge at the level of Precalculus.

2. Passed the MAT placement exam at SUNY Plattsburgh given at the beginning and end of each semester and have demonstrated knowledge at the level of Precalculus.

Exceptions:
Students who have received transfer credit for CALCULUS I from an accredited college or university. The official transcript of this credit must be on file in the Registrar's Office and the credit will appear on your transcript and CAPP report.

Foreign Language Requirement

All students must complete two semesters of a foreign language.

• Example: SUNY Plattsburgh SPA 111 and SPA 112 = Spanish I and Spanish II, which will meet the general education foreign language requirement.

Exemption:
New York State high school students who have pass the Regents Exam in a foreign language with an 85% or better and take one year beyond that level (in the same language) are not required to take foreign language at the college level.
