Jonathan Slater is a member of the communication faculty at SUNY Plattsburgh. He is the coordinator for the public relations/organizational communication major. His thirty-year career includes work in public relations practice and international advertising, economic development, public television, and of course, the classroom. Dr. Slater has earned the distinction "Most Outstanding Faculty Member" in SUNY Plattsburgh's Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program in administration and leadership.
Dr. Slater is a member of the Community Web Visibility Research Project (www.communitywebvisibility.com ). This team of communication scholars is investigating the links between the online identities of rural, upstate New York communities and their ability to brand themselves as visible and viable tourist destinations.
Dr. Slater is an outspoken advocate of service learning, especially in public relations education. He also has devoted himself to an examination of public relations ethics. In addition, he has been collaborating on a project about ways to introduce communication and computer science students to the concepts of media convergence.
Dr. Slater is a former Fellow of SUNY Plattsburgh's Institute for Ethics in Public Life. And recently, he was awarded the Rabin Fellowship in Judaic Perspectives.
Dr. Slater is a member of the Public Relations Society of America Educators Academy and the Media Ecology Association . He also serves on the board of the Global Business Association-Fay Lebowitz Memorial Scholarship at Hofstra University's Frank G. Zarb School of Business.
