Communication Studies Faculty - Dr. Lori Walters-Kramer
Assistant Professor
Lori Walters-Kramer teaches a variety of communication studies courses including Rhetorical Criticism, Small Group Communication, Introduction to Human Communication, Speechwriting, and Culture & Communication. Service-learning projects that have been integrated into Lori's courses help students apply course concepts and share their informed perspectives with others while meeting community needs. For example, students in the 2004 Small Group Communication course partnered with the local neighborhood association "For All Interested Residents" conducting surveys and interviews to better understand challenges faced by off-campus students and residents. In the fall of 2006, students in the Speechwriting course collaborated with candidates for area political offices--completing audience analysis, research, and speechwriting tasks for candidates.
Her latest scholarship includes conference presentations at the annual meetings of the American Democracy Project and the Eastern Communication Association. As well, recent writing has been or will be published in Quick Hits for Educating Citizens , The Encyclopedia of Activism and Social Justice , and The Encyclopedia of Women's History .
Lori is proud to serve on the university's American Democracy Project committee and the task force of the Center for Teaching Effectiveness. She also is Chair of the department's Professional Learning Experience committee and advisor of SUNY Plattsburgh's chapter of Lambda Pi Eta (the Communication Studies Honor Society).
