Computer Science Club
Association for Computing Machinery (A.C.M.)
The Student Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (A.C.M.) and the Plattsburgh State Computer Science Club hold joint meetings and other joint activities. The Computer Science Club is approved and funded through the Student Association.
The A.C.M. is an American-based international organization of Computer Science professionals. The main organization publishes journals (of which some are designed to be read by students) and holds seminars and conferences on regional, national, and worldwide bases. We have a student chapter of the A.C.M. on our campus. The chapter provides opportunities for students to:
- Interact, informally and socially, with persons of like interests.
- Work on projects to help other students and the Department itself; (for example, A.C.M. members may work as tutors).
- Arrange and participate in enrichment and extra-curricular activites related to computing; (for example, A.C.M. members may arrange for guest speakers who lecture in areas of interest to students, or they may arrange for a tour of a related industrial or professional facility, or they may sponsor a team in a computer programming contest).
- Provide a forum for students to speak out on issues of common interest; (for example, operation of campus computational facilities).
- Become student members of the parent A.C.M. organization and subscribe to A.C.M. journals.
