News and Coming Attractions in Criminal Justice at SUNY Plattsburgh
New Courses for Fall 2006
For Fall 2006 the Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice will be fully implementing several new courses among our required lists:
- Sociology 253 - Probation & Parole
- Sociology 270 - Criminal Investigation
- Sociology 364 - Victimology
- and developing a new course "Comparative Justice Systems" addressing international and transnational criminal police, courts, and correctional systems.
Legal Studies Minor
The Criminal Justice program has recently received approval for a Legal Studies Minor that will appear in the catalog in the next year. This program is designed to assist undergraduates interested in and preparing for a legal education beyond their undergraduate experience.
New Faculty
The department welcomes three new full-time faculty members:
- Dr. Monica Ciobanu
Ph.D. New School University, 2005- Professor Ciobanu specializes in sociology of law, as well as comparative and international justice.
- Dr. Lauren Eastwood
Ph.D. Syracuse, 2004- Professor Eastwood specializes in sociological theory and environmental sociology on an international scale.
- Dr. Richard Greenleaf
Ph.D. Florida, 1993- Professor Greenleaf specializes in sociology of policing, is widely known for his work in enforcement strategies, and administers the Plattsburgh Extension Program in Criminal Justice located at Queensbury, New York.
