Adolescence Education Program at SUNY Plattsburgh
Teachers for grades 7-12 face special challenges in preparing adolescents for life in the 21st century.
Plattsburgh State offers focused adolescence education programs in biology, chemistry, earth science, English, French, mathematics, physics, social studies, and Spanish. Teacher education candidates in these areas benefit from the guidance of two advisors - one in the Department of Adolescence Education and one in their liberal arts concentration.
Candidates in the combined Bachelors and Master's degree program complete a content-area major in one of the disciplines in which certification is offered, then complete a three-semester sequence of education courses in preparation for teacher certification and the Master's degree.
A Master of Science for Teachers (M.S.T.) degree program for those who have already earned a Bachelor's degree in one of the content areas in which certification is offered is also available. This degree program leads to initial teacher certification.
The traditional Adolescence Education Bachelors of Science program is continued only for those students who are currently enrolled.
