Master in Curriculum and Instruction
Master of Science in Education (M.S. Ed.) in Curriculum and Instruction (33 credits)
The M.S. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction (33 credit hours) meets New York State Education Department (NYSED) standards for the integration of content and pedagogy and can be completed at SUNY Plattsburgh's Main Campus in Plattsburgh or the Branch Campus at the Adirondack Community College (ACC) in Queensbury, NY.
Most certification subject areas*** are represented in three, four-credit Integrated Studies Courses (INT) that incorporate pedagogy in projects that are content specific. Advanced skills are offered in the application of technology to classroom instruction. Well equipped computer labs are used where students design websites and actually practice using instructional technology to facilitate learning. Electives are available for students seeking to improve professional skills in many areas such as Literacy, Counseling, and Educational Leadership.
***If you have certification in Childhood 1-6, Music, Visual Arts, Biology, Chemistry 7-12, Earth Science 7-12, English 7-12, French 7-12, Mathematics 7-12, Physics 7-12, Social Studies 7-12, or Spanish 7-12, you will be eligible for certification upon successful completion of the program through the TEACH Approved Pathway.
If you have an initial/provisional certification in other areas (e.g., physical education, health education, technology), you may apply for the Spring 2010 Semester, but will have to apply for permanent/professional certification through the Individual Pathway on the TEACH website (individuals in these certification areas should consult with their Regional Certification Officer or the State Education Department to determine whether or not additional courses in their title area will be required for permanent/professional certification). Additional content area coursework is required through the Individual Pathway.
SUNY Plattsburgh will not be accepting applications for the Summer or Fall of 2010 for initial/provisional certification in these other areas (e.g., physical education, health education, technology).
