Services

The Center offers a high-interest, motivational program to help children and adults develop a sense of themselves as readers and writers.

Instructional Materials

Instructional materials are provided for teacher candidates enrolled in Plattsburgh State undergraduate and graduate courses.

Literacy Experiences and Tutoring for Children (Ages 4 - high school)

Tutoring Services are connected to courses in the M.S.Ed. Literacy Program.
Tutoring will be conducted by graduate students under the direction and supervision of the Director of the Literacy Education Center.

Spring 2008 Practicum

Day and General Dates:
- Ages 4-Grade 6, Tuesdays, 7 weeks, one hour/week, 4:30-5:30 p.m., February 26th - April 22**
  OR
- Ages 4-Grade 12, Wednesdays, 7 weeks, one hour/week, 4:30-5:30 p.m., February 27th - April 23th**
  **There is no tutoring the week of March 17th (SUNY Spring Break) and the week of April 14th (School District Holiday).
Fee: None

Summer 2008 Clinics

Day and General Dates:
- Session B: M-TH, 4 weeks, 90 minutes/day (4:30-6:00 p.m.), M June 16th - Th July 10th
  OR
- Session C: M-Th, 4 weeks, 90 minutes/day (8:30-10:00 a.m.), M July 21th - August 14th
Location: Literacy Education Center, Sibley Hall (Rugar St. at Prospect Ave.), Room 332
Fee: $150 (learn about sliding scales for tutoring fees) (PDF file size is 20.3kb)

Each child will receive the following services:

An individual tutor will devise and implement a plan for improving the child's strengths and correcting identified areas of weakness.
Ongoing evaluation of progress.
Final report with recommendations for continued study.
