Teaching and Learning Master’s Degree

So you’ve earned your initial teaching certification, gained experience as a teacher in New York State, and must now obtain your professional licensure required after five years. Our nationally accredited teaching and learning program helps you strengthen your subject-area knowledge and leads to professional New York State teaching certification.

Complete core courses that focus on advanced studies in curriculum, assessment, content pedagogy and mastery of teaching, then refine your focus on one of three concentration options: special education, literacy or early childhood education. Nine credit hours of electives allow you to design a program that suits your interests.

Master of Science in Education (M.S. Ed.) in Teaching and Learning (30–33 credits)

Admission Requirements

General admission criteria include a completed graduate study application, three recommendations, statement of purpose or intent, and official transcripts. Requirements include:

  • Minimum of a 3.0 undergraduate GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Official Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) scores
  • Individuals (with the exception of Special Education Grades 7–12 program candidates) must supply a copy of NYS teaching certificate at the elementary and/or secondary level OR a written explanation of how all NYSED requirements (including exams) for such a certificate will be completed prior to matriculation

Admission Deadline: rolling admission, apply at least six weeks before the start of the fall, spring, or summer semesters.
