English Faculty - Dr. John Shout

Professor

John Shout is Chair of the Theatre Department while also holding a professorship in English. He teaches a variety of courses in dramatic literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as well as courses in voice, musical theatre and playwriting.

Publications include articles on Irish film and theatre, the radical drama of the 1930s, and such performers as Tallulah Bankhead, Judy Holliday and Colleen Dewhurst. He has directed numerous mainstage productions including, most recently, "Six Characters in Search of an Author" and "Arsenic and Old Lace".

John appears once a year as the garrulous tavernkeeper Israel Green when the community celebrates the "Battle of Plattsburgh."
