Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Language Arts

This major is designed for students who want to teach English at the high school level. A student who has received a B.A. in Language Arts will have met all the New York State subject area requirements for English 7–12 certification. After completing an M.S.T. program (in as few as three additional semesters), the student will be eligible for initial certification and, after three years of experience teaching, professional certification.

This major is designed for students who want to write. Major requirements allow students to focus on creative writing (such as poetry and fiction) or professional and technical writing (such as articles and reports).

This major is designed for students who want to pursue careers in fields requiring exceptional reading, writing, and interpretive skills, such as law, college teaching, publishing, editing, advertising, librarianship, and public relations.
