Internships

The Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management Department provides students with two distinguished internships opportunities.

Disney Internship

SUNY Plattsburgh's department of Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management offers a unique internship through its partnership with the Walt Disney World College Program. The program provides the student with an opportunity to take a semester to do an internship in Florida. This internship includes hospitality-industry-specific work experience at various areas such as quick and full-service restaurants, hotels, vacation planning, recreation, entertainment centers, as well as guest services, customer relations, operations and merchandising.

The Disney experience exposes the students to a multi-cultural and diverse environment that is a valuable element of a Hospitality-Management career. The program also includes an education component through which students can take Hospitality-Management courses. The American Council on Education recommends these courses for credit. The Disney internship is an academically oriented work experience that will provide the students with the tools they need to compete in today's job market. The Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management department strongly encourages students to participate in this exciting opportunity and provides internship credits upon completion of the program.

With this internship opportunity, the students can gain hands-on experience through working at full-service restaurant operations where they are part of the actual staff. The intent of the program is to provide the students with the practical skills involved in day-to-day activities of effectively running a food-service operation. The Pelican Bay internship is a valuable experience providing the students with a realistic view of the hospitality industry by making them an integral part of an operation.
