The Skills I've Gained Have Already Earned Me a Promotion
Five years after graduating from SUNY Cortland and while working in the North Country, I decided I needed a change and wanted to expand my opportunities in the job market.
I chose to pursue the M.A.L.S. Leadership program at SUNY Plattsburgh because the courses offered a wide range of expertise in working with individuals and teams. I felt that the education would be applicable in many different areas. At the time, I did not know just how valuable this education would be for me personally and professionally. It has sharpened my awareness and understanding for individual needs, allowing me to be a more effective leader. Personally, it has been a journey that has broadened my perspectives of leadership and the value of developing win-win situations.
With only two more courses to complete, I have been offered a leadership role within my company. During these challenging economic times I know that strong leadership is needed to bring a company success. I am grateful to SUNY Plattsburgh for offering a program that has given me the knowledge that I need to move into this new role.

This Program Teaches Me How to be a Leader and Advances My Career
"After years of working in the not-for-profit field as well as participating in county government, volunteering in local politics, and being involved in local youth sports organizations, I began looking at the various characteristics of the leaders of those organizations. I was also looking for a degree that would help me advance in my career.
"The majority of master's programs at other colleges require specialization in a certain field and taking two or more courses per semester. The M.A.L.S. Leadership at SUNY Plattsburgh allows me to customize my course load in a fashion that allows me to participate in community organizations as well as take a semester off for family crisis. This flexibility and the ability to take courses at Adirondack Community College makes this program a reality for me.
"During my courses, I have come upon professors who allow for personal style and growth. I am encouraged to express personal thoughts and beliefs and the feedback they give fosters further development of my leadership style. The use of real world experiences and challenges and how they relate to leadership principles have prepared me for the daily, impromptu opportunities to utilize and build upon my leadership skills and knowledge."

The Leadership Program is the Stepping Stone for My Next Career"When I decided to go back to school for my Master's degree, it was important that the program be affordable and close to home. It was also important to me that I pursue a program that would pull my career knowledge and education together while broadening my skills as a professional. I needed something that would fit with my current career in Human Resources while providing a stepping stone for my next career. "In my search I found that SUNY Plattsburgh offers a M.S. in Leadership, and I am pleased to say that it's been everything I was looking for. I am thrilled to be a returning adult student in the M.S. Leadership program at the SUNY Plattsburgh Branch Campus at ACC. This program is the first step in helping me to meet all my personal and professional goals." |

This Is a Great Learning Environment"After receiving my undergraduate degree in business management at the Plattsburgh Branch Campus at Adirondack Community College, it seemed like a natural transition for me to continue on and get my master's degree. This was due in part to the convenient location that provides students such as me a chance to earn their degrees without traveling too far. "I just completed my first year in the M.S. in Leadership program and I feel very fortunate to be included in such a great learning environment. The professors are extremely knowledgeable and really care about the students in the program. I have really enjoyed continuing my education in the leadership program and I am truly looking forward to what the future holds, both academically and professionally." |

I'm Inspired to Continue LearningThe M.A.L.S. Administration and Leadership program has been a great experience and opened my eyes to the value of life-long learning. In this dynamic global economy it's more important than ever to develop new skills and capabilities. The program provides a wealth of practical knowledge one can apply in any field and is a great place to continue down your career path. Thanks to this experience, I am recommitted to a life of individual learning and will encourage others to embrace the same. It will be worth every ounce of effort. |
