Plattsburgh State Learning Center - Information for Students
Learning Center Hours of Operation
The Learning Center opens its doors each day for a variety of studying opportunities. This unique environment attempts to meet all the needs of students and their busy schedules.
For instance, if you want a private study carrol, we've got them. If you need to complete a group project, there are plenty of tables here allowing your group to spread out and focus on the task at hand.
If you need a snack break, feel free to bring your munchies with you when you come to study. If you're a night owl, we can accomodate you. We also provide a wireless connection to the Internet for your personal laptop (your own battery is required) as well as a computer lab during limited hours.

Individual Appointments
A Free Service That Can Make A Difference
The Learning Center offers individual appointments to meet with peer tutors free of charge for current Plattsburgh State students. Our peer tutors are Plattsburgh State students who have done well in their courses and have been trained to provide assistance to other students.
Please note that all appointments need to be made in person at the Learning Center. To make an appointment with a tutor, come to the Learning Center and speak with the Head Tutor who sits at the front/information desk. He or she will assist you in making an appointment that best fits into your schedule.
Before you schedule an appointment, please keep the following in mind:
- Students are eligible to receive tutoring in two courses a week, up to two hours for each course.
- All appointments need to be made at least one day in advance, unless you utilize our walk-in services.
- When making your first appointment of the semester, you will be asked to fill out a contract stating our policies regarding cancelling/missing appointments and preparing for tutoring sessions.
- Being prepared includes completing your reading, attempting your homework before you come, and preparing questions to help the tutor focus your session.
Note: If you cancel three appointments, or fail to show up for two appointments without giving us adequate notice, we will ask you to meet with Karin Killough, Learning Center Director, before you are allowed to schedule future appointments.
