Adjunct Lecturer

Adjunct lecturer, Louise Dionne joined the SUNY Plattsburgh music faculty in Spring 2001. She teaches two sections of Piano Class I, and one section of Piano Class II. An active performer and composer, Dionne has presented solo recitals in the United States, Canada, and Europe.

For the past four years, Dionne has been the guest performer for the Annual Education, Health, and Human Services Awards and Honors Ceremony. In April 2007, she received an appreciation award for performing for the Sigma Theta Tau International, Gamma Delta Chapter, National Honor Society of Nursing. In 2001, she helped raise money for the piano at the North Country Cultural Center for the Arts. She also enjoyed performing two piano concerti (Mozart's c minor, K. 491 -composed her own cadenzas; and Chopin's 1st in e minor, op. 11) at the renovated Plattsburgh City Hall's Rotunda. She performed a recital to help raise money for Hurrican Andrew victims, and has done a number of other benefit concerts.

Louise Dionne received a Master's Degree in piano performance with a Suzuki emphasis from Ithaca College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in music, and two minors in foreign languages (French and Spanish) from SUNY Plattsburgh where she received the Outstanding Music Award. At Ithaca she enjoyed master classes at Cornell University and she helped teach Music Theory 6 at Ithaca College. Her piano instructors were Henri Brassard in Canada, Phiroze Mehta in Ithaca, Kathryn Stuart in Plattsburgh. She has been an active participant in master classes given by Andre-Michel Shub, Malcomb Bilson, and members of the Cleveland Quartet, and the New Arts Trio.

As applied piano instructor, Dionne teaches over 40 students of all ages and levels at "Louise Dionne's Piano Studio" above the Koffee Kat on Margaret Street in Plattsburgh. Her students perform three or more concerts a year open to the public. Dionne has been the treasurer and secretary for the Clinton County Piano Teachers' Association since 1990.

Dionne began and coordinated the first skating party for the SUNY Plattsburgh "Partners in Cross-Cultural Learning." An avid figure skater, Dionne has been a member of the Skating Club of the Adirondacks since 1998. In March 2007, she had a feature role in their 2007 ice show, playing the part of "Glenda, the good witch from the North." In January 2007, she passed the United States Figure Skating "Adult Gold-Moves-in-the-Field" test. In April 2008, she plans on competing in the Adult Nationals in Lake Placid. She has skated four programs for Adult Exhibitions at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid. She studies with her coach, Robin Miller, from Lake Placid. She has choreographed skating programs to various musical genres and wishes to choreograph new ones to her own piano compositions.
