Guidelines for Private Music Lessons
Each student enrolled in the applied music program must meet the following requirements:
Participate in one of the following ensembles: Cardinal Singers, Chorale, Choral Union, Jazz Ensemble, Sinfonia, Contemporary Combo, or Symphonic Band.
Attend the first music convocation each semester. This meeting of all applied students is an opportunity to meet your fellow students and many of our music faculty. Important information and departmental announcements for the semester are made at this convocation.
Attend several Performance Classes scheduled throughout the semester. You and your peers will perform selections that you have been working on with your private teacher.
Attend Studio Classes, as scheduled by your private teacher. These classes allow you to meet with other students studying the same instrument as you are and explore performance issues specific to your instrument.
Attend five of the music performances presented or sponsored by the Music Department. You may be performing in the concert or supporting your peers who are performing, or you may be hearing a guest artist in a concert or masterclass setting.
Present a solo performance each semester. Although this typically will be a selection on a Performance Class, in a Studio Class, or for a jury, the choice rests with the individual music instructor.
Music Lessons for Beginners
Some of our popular Arts General Education courses are those in which we offer class instruction in guitar, piano, and voice for students at the beginning level.
Class size is limited, allowing teachers to work more closely with each student and address individual needs.
These classes lead you through the basic technical issues and skills for singing or playing guitar or piano.
Additionally, we offer Intermediate Piano Class for students who choose to continue in piano but are not qualified for private instruction.
