Academic Philosophy

“My goal as a professor of psychiatric mental health nursing is to have students critically examine their beliefs about their worlds and develop new ways of viewing and defining those worlds. Students are motivated by being able to connect their learning with their professional performance, and my role is to provide opportunities for them to develop confidence and be successful.  I view the learning process as a system and believe that all members of the learning community influence one another.  I encourage my students to be lifelong learners in whatever specialty they choose, for success in nursing requires knowledge, clinical reasoning and interest. I view the entire world as my students’ clinical setting and truly believe that ‘every nurse is a psychiatric nurse’.”
