Rebecca has been conducting genetic research through the Biology Department under the advisement of Dr. Nancy Elwess and Professor Sandra Latourelle. Her research looks at a specific gene and its relation to high fatty food preference and type II diabetes mellitus. She has presented her findings at several national conferences.
“I have always been passionate about pursuing a career in the field of dietetics. I applied to SUNY Plattsburgh's nutrition program because it would prepare me to pursue a dietetic internship. SUNY offered an accredited nutrition program with an excellent curriculum. The small classes and dedicated department of professors created a warm and friendly atmosphere. Professors are supportive and help students’ achieve their own success."
She has been accepted into McGill University's Master of Science Program in Human Nutrition with RD credentialing internship.
The Student Dietetic Club is one of the many campus clubs at SUNY Plattsburgh. The club is free and open to all FNI students. Meetings are usually held weekly. Membership offers a way to participate in campus and community volunteer work and service, network with fellow students, attend educational conferences, and make new friends. Participation, especially if serving as an officer, will enhance your resume for dietetic internships, scholarships and future employment. Some of our recent activities include potluck dinners, conferences, food drives, kick ball tournament, fund raising /awareness events, trips to local orchards, and numerous volunteer opportunities promoting good nutrition on and off campus.
