Physics Faculty — Dr. Glenn Myer

Professor
Director, Northcountry Planetarium

Dr. Myer entered this incarnation somewhat less than three-quarters of a century ago in the Hudson Valley of New York state. After a relatively uneventful childhood and adolescence he surprised all concerned by working his way through the educational system to obtain a Ph.D. in the fields of fluid dynamics, physical limnology, and cloud physics.

In 1971 he joined the faculty of Plattsburgh State and has done odd jobs as a member of the departments of physics, computer science, geology, and environmental science (generally not all during the same semester). He was also corrupted by some enthusiastic undergraduate students interested in planetarium education and has served as the planetarium director for the Northcountry Planetarium for over three decades. Although his research interests have broadened over the years (the universe has so many fascinating mysteries), most of his published research is in the fields of physical limnology and computer modeling.

When not on campus, Dr. Myer enjoys hiking and canoeing both locally in the Adirondacks and in other locations. Some of his recent adventures have been on the hills of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, in the Glastonbury and Cheddar George areas of England, and a journey to the summit of the Langjokull Glacier in Iceland. Other hobbies include reading Egyptian hieroglyphs, enjoying amateur astronomy, writing computer programs for modeling and analysis, and learning more about comparative religion and ritual magick. He often spends about a month in the summer in London doing various and sundry things at the British Museum.
