Sociology Faculty - Dr. Monica Ciobanu
Assistant Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice
Dr. Monica Ciobanu joined the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Plattsburgh State University of New York in the fall of 2005 after completing her Ph.D. in Sociology at the Graduate Faculty of Political and Social Science at the New School for Social Research in New York. Since she came to SUNY Plattsburgh, Dr. Ciobanu continues to pursue her scholarship in the areas of democratization in post-communism, but has also developed new research interests related to issues of memory and justice in transitional societies. In the fall of 2007, she was a fellow in residence at the Institute for Ethics in Public Life. Before she came to SUNY Plattsburgh, Dr. Ciobanu had been teaching courses in the areas of social theory, international criminal justice, and gender at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York.
