Sociology Faculty - Edward Smith
Adjunct Lecturer
Edward Smith has been a Police Officer at the Plattsburgh Police Department since 1997. He has been a Detective there since 2004. He currently teaches Introduction to Criminal Justice and Criminal Investigation, and has previously taught Sociology of Policing, and Sociology of Law. Prior to teaching at SUNY Plattsburgh, he taught at Clinton Community College. He is a certified instructor at the local police academy, and also holds specialized instructor certification for D.W.I. Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, RADAR/LIDAR, Ethical Awareness, Breath Analysis Operator, and Mental Health. He is also a Crisis Negotiator and currently holds the rank of Detective, assigned to the Identification Office.
In his spare time he enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with his family.
