Accommodations
Housing at UQ is quite different from what you are used to in the US. On-campus housing space is very limited, and actually run by private organizations independent from the university. For each one, you must make a formal application. You will pay for their services after you arrive in Australia with Australian dollars. If you want a room at one of these establishments, you must apply early and understand that you are not entitled to a room. Most students at UQ live off-campus in the many private rentals geared towards students near the campus area. UQ's Accommodation Services will in fact arrange for you to visit these places. They will even set you up with temporary accommodations and an airport pick up at the Brisbane International Airport for when you first arrive. Some rentals are furnished, and some are not! For more information about accommodations at UQ and in Brisbane, please visit UQ's Accommodation Services website.
Location
Brisbane is located in the center of Australia on its eastern coast. The climate is warm all year round and an hour away you will find the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is Australia's top beach destination year round. You can easily and quickly access this area while at UQ via public transportation, bus, or train. Nearby, you will also find the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef system and also a World Heritage site and one of CNN's seven natural wonders of the world.
