University of Wollongong (UOW)

Programs in Australia

Why UOW?

UOW has rightly earned Australia's prestigious "University of the Year" twice in its recent history. It also has a large international student population making it an agreeable atmosphere to both locals and students from abroad. You will also find an extensive offering of courses at UOW.

How to Apply

You must submit both the SUNY Application and the UOW Application to the SUNY Plattsburgh Global Education Office by the deadlines stated in the above section. (Note: the 85.3kb SUNY Application PDF file requires the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download. )

Courses at UOW

Typically, you take at least three and no more than four courses at UOW. Check out UOW's course offerings for more information.

Accommodations and Airport Pick Up

You will arrange and pay for your accommodations either directly with UOW, or you may find housing on your own. If you want to stay at UOW, we highly advise that you apply for housing as soon as possible as space is limited and you are not entitled to a room there. Not all housing at UOW offers meal plans as you are accustomed to in the US. "Catered" means that the housing has a meal plan, and "self-catered" means that there are shared kitchen facilities for you to store and prepare your own food. To check out the types of accommodations available, cost information and how to apply, please visit UOW's Accommodations Website.

UOW also offers an airport meeting and transportation service for you at the Sydney International Airport. You must reserve it online several weeks before you leave.

Location

Wollongong is a beachfront city located a little over an hour by public transportation (train or bus) to the south of Sydney, Australia's largest city. The peculiar sounding name comes from the local Aboriginal language, and means "sound of the sea." It has a population of approximately 230,000 making it an ideal location if you are not a fan of big cities and the extra expenses that come along with living in them! At the same time, you can easily access Sydney for day trips and all that Australia's largest city has to offer. Wollongong itself features 17 beaches, several large shopping malls and a cosmopolitan population that make it a very sophisticated atmosphere.
