Why UG?

The Spanish Language Semester Program at University of Guadalajara (UG) is for you if you want to become fluent in Spanish. All of the courses are for students whose native language is not Spanish. UG is one of Mexico's largest public universities with more than 70,000 students. It has several campuses throughout the city. Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city and one of its most historic, represents an excellent learning environment that will complement your courses.

How to Apply

You must submit both the SUNY Application to the SUNY Plattsburgh Global Education Office by the deadlines stated in the above section. NOTE: You do not have to submit the $100 fee asked for in the Guadalajara application. Please e-mail for copies at globaleducation@plattsburgh.edu. The 85.3kb SUNY Application PDF file requires the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download.

Courses at Guadalajara

To earn a semester's worth of full time credit; you will enroll in three five-week sessions back to back. Each session is worth six credits, and you will have four hours of class each day. Prior to the start of each session, you will take a placement exam to place you in courses with other students who have a similar level of Spanish proficiency as you. Occasionally, CEPE offers content course (i.e. Mexican Literature) to students who have a high level proficiency of Spanish. You may find course descriptions on CEPE's website.

Accommodations

You will pay for your housing in Mexico after you arrive. UG has a guesthouse for international students, or will arrange for home stays where you will pay a local family for room and board. For information on both options, including costs, please visit CEPE's website.

Location

The Universidad de Guadalajara is located in the state of Jalisco. Guadalajara is a modern city of over 3 million people. Jalisco is the home of the famous Mariachi band and the Mexican hat dance.
