Why Carleton?

Not only is Carleton a good choice due to its excellent reputation, but also due to its location in Canada's capital, Ottawa. If you are interested in Canadian Studies or Political Science, then you will find plenty of opportunities to explore your interests beyond the classroom at Carleton. Quebec, Canada's largest French-speaking province, is across the river from Ottawa.

How to Apply

You must submit both the SUNY Application and the Carleton Application to the SUNY Plattsburgh Global Education Office by the deadlines stated in the above section. You may download copies from our website, or e-mail us for copies at globaleducation@plattsburgh.edu. (Note: the 85.3kb SUNY Application PDF file requires the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download.)

Courses at Carleton

Carleton offers more than 65 programs of study, so you should be able to find plenty of interesting courses in your major. To view a list of what they offer and course descriptions, please visit Carleton's website.

Accommodations

You may choose to live on or off campus at Carleton. If you choose to live off campus, however, you will have to find your own apartment and sign a lease. SUNY Plattsburgh is not able to offer assistance for off-campus housing at Carleton. On-campus housing at Carleton is very similar to what you find in the US. We encourage you to consider living on campus. Space is limited, so the earlier you apply, the better. For more information about housing at Carleton, please visit Carleton's website.

Location

Ottawa is the capital of Canada, and has a population of about one million people. It is located in eastern Ontario, or about a three-hour drive northwest of Plattsburgh. Across the river from Ottawa is Quebec, Canada's largest French-speaking population. And while the majority of Ottawa's population is English-speaking, it does have a large French-speaking population too. Its population and location will not only help you improve your French, if you want, but it also provides the perfect setting for anyone interested in studying Canada's two largest cultural groups.
