Why University of Montreal?
The University of Montreal offers a variety of intensive summer courses in French language skills that last for three weeks each. The courses are great for anyone wanting a short refresher in French, who wants to focus on a specific skill such speaking, writing or listening or who would like to earn three credits in French in only three weeks! Students come from all over the world, and the university does offer some extra-curricular activities throughout the courses for those who are interested.
- Terms: Various three-week courses throughout the summer
- Eligibility: open to all students currently enrolled in a US college or university; minimum sophomore standing at the time of participation; minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Credits: 3 undergrad in French
- Application Deadlines: March 15
How to Apply
You must submit the SUNY Application and the University of Montreal Registration Form to Plattsburgh by the deadlines stated in the above section. You may download the application from our website, or e-mail us at globaleducation@plattsburgh.edu for copies. Accommodations
You are responsible for making your own housing arrangements in Montreal for the duration of your course. You may book a room at the University of Montreal residence halls . Or, you may find your own housing in Montreal for the three weeks. If you do want a residence hall room, then you should book it as soon as you are accepted. Space is limited, and not guaranteed. There will be instructions in your acceptance letter.
Location
Montreal is the second largest French-speaking cities in the world after Paris. It's also one of North America's largest, oldest and most important ports. The Montreal of today is a cosmopolitan city. It has a large English-speaking population, and many other cultural communities from around the world that make it quite unique compares to many other places. You will be able to practice your French, but the environment and people are very multilingual!
2009 Estimated Costs
- New York State and Non-New York State Residents: $3,551
- Incudes:
- Application fee: $35 due when you apply
- Deposit: $200 due several weeks after accepted
- SUNY Tuition and Program Fee: $2,236 for NYS residents and non NYS residents
- Room and Board: estimated $1000
- International Health Insurance: $80
Please note: You will pay your Application Fee, Deposit, SUNY tuition, Semester Abroad Fee and Health Insurance to SUNY before you leave. You will pay for your housing and food in Canada.
Other costs you will have to participate in this program:
- Roundtrip transportation: cost varies drastically depending on where you leave and how you go to Montreal
- Passport: US passports currently cost $110
