Strategic Market Expansion in the NAFTA Nations Program 2007-2010
Purpose
To provide SUNY Plattsburgh students with opportunities to study in Canada or Mexico in order to develop business graduates who can recognize, assess, and take advantage of business opportunities that cross the borders of the three North American Countries. The objectives of the program are to:
- Develop student expertise in new market assessment for business growth and strategic expansion by small and mid-sized businesses across NAFTA nations.
- Develop students' ability to speak at least two of the languages spoken in North America so that direct involvement in research, classes, and the business world is possible.
Where and when can I go?
- Fall 2007 - Capilano College (Vancouver, Canada)
- Spring 2008 - SUNY Plattsburgh will host students from Canada and Mexico.
- Fall 2008 - Universidad de Monterrey (Monterrey, Mexico)
- Spring 2009 - Mount Royal College (Calgary, Canada)
- Fall 2009 - University of Northern Colorado (SUNY Plattsburgh students may not apply for the stipend and scholarship this semester. However, they may apply to attend this university through National Student Exchange ).
- Spring 2010 - Universidad de Guadalajara (Guadalajara, Mexico)
Stipends and Scholarships
All students selected to participate in this program will receive a stipend of $3000 to help pay transportation, room & board, and other study abroad expenses. An additional stipend of $1000 is available to those students wishing to enroll in a language immersion program prior to their semester abroad.
Students meeting stated eligibility requirements who also have a GPA of 3.0 are eligible to apply for a Glaubinger Scholars Society Scholarship of up to full in-state tuition. This scholarship may be used to pay tuition, college fees, or study abroad fees to SUNY Plattsburgh. Funds will typically be paid directly to the registrar, although in some cases students will be reimbursed for fees paid to the Study Abroad Office.

Who is eligible?
Full-time, undergraduate SUNY Plattsburgh State students who:
- are Business majors or Foreign Language majors with a strong business minor or associate degree in business
- are juniors or seniors with a record of competent academic performance
- have achieved competent language proficiency
- are either U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents with an I-151, I-551, or I-551C (Alien Registration Receipt Card), or with an Arrival -Departure Record (I-94) from USCIS showing one of the following designations: "Refugee," "Asylum Granted," "Humanitarian Parole," "Cuban-Haitian Entrant, Status Pending," or "Conditional Entrant" (valid only if issued before April 1, 1980).
How to Apply
- Application Deadline: March 15 for Fall Semester and October 1 for Spring Semester
- To study abroad, students must fill out and submit SUNY Application to Study Abroad Office
- To apply for the stipends and scholarship, students must submit a separate application form
