The College at a Glance

Set in upstate New York's exciting Champlain Valley region, our medium-sized, residential campus offers stunning views of mountains and lakes in a safe, community setting. Both Lake Placid's Olympic Region and cosmopolitan Montreal are popular nearby attractions with the College's 5,328 undergraduates.

Admissions

Admission for freshmen and transfers is competitive.

Freshman enrollees typically comprise about 60 percent of the entering class. They have solid, college-prep high school backgrounds with mean averages in the "B" range.

Transfers G.P.A. requirements vary, with mean averages calculated on all colleges previously attended.

Academics - the Heart of Campus Life

Three principal academic divisions offer more than 75 major and minor academic programs; these include arts and sciences, an internationally accredited School of Business (A.A.C.S.B.), and Education, Health and Human Services Programs. Hands-on internships, research, and study-abroad experiences complement a typical graduate's resume.

Qualified faculty, not graduate assistants, teach all the courses, enhancing student-teacher interaction. Vital technologies abound on the campus. In addition to various computing labs and wireless zones across campus, every dorm room has rapid access for computing and Internet connectivity.

SUNY Plattsburgh teaches students values of civic responsibility through programs devoted to service, ethics, and leadership. A Plattsburgh education values diversity and strives to build character - an essential item for personal well-being, social interaction, and career advancement.

Campus Life

Students enjoy a strong sense of community on campus. Located in the small city of Plattsburgh, N.Y., on the western shore of Lake Champlain, Plattsburgh State offers students convenient access to local malls and downtown. A vibrant activities program covers nearly every personal taste, from concerts and theater productions to intramural athletics and public service projects. And the surrounding region offers many additional recreational benefits.

Scholarships

Many merit scholarships are available to qualified students, in addition to special grant programs for students who are not New York State residents.
