Research Assistant in the Center for Teaching Excellence
The position is primarily a research and development position, with the assistant guided in the research of pedagogy and development of pedagogical tools in higher education by the Director of the CTE.
- 10 hours/week
- Primary location: Feinberg Library
(Note: this poition is to be filled fall/spring 2008-2009)
Educational Value to Student:
This assistantship would maximize the educational experience of the graduate student who wishes to understand the fundamental relationship of theory and practice in education, and who has an interest in a career in higher education. It is an opportunity to be a part of conversations with teaching faculty on the most pressing concerns in education today and to contribute to real-life excellence in the classrooms of SUNY Plattsburgh.
Major Responsibilities:
- Research on pedagogy; teaching theories, strategies, and techniques, including effective utilization of instructional technologies,
- Prepare reports on best practices in teaching,
- Assist in developing pedagogical tools such as rubrics or enhanced PowerPoint presentations,
- Assist the Director with designing experimental instructional projects and developing instruments to assess the effectiveness of the projects.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the tools of research: databases, catalogs, ILL, and Internet resources
- General familiarity with instructional technology such as ANGEL and PowerPoint
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail; ability to organize and carry through on complex projects
- Understanding of the governing standards of research
- Innovative and open-minded disposition
