Health Insurance for International Students

As some of you might know, health care in the United States is very expensive. A simple visit to a doctor can cost hundreds of dollars and staying in the hospital for couple of days may cost a fortune. Therefore, health insurance is required at SUNY Plattsburgh for all students.

You must either purchase the health insurance plan offered by SUNY Plattsburgh (HTH Worldwide Insurance), or present proof of coverage by a comparable health insurance plan by another insurance company in the U.S. or outside of the U.S. that is valid here. If you have or intend to purchase alternative health insurance, you must show proof of coverage to International Students Services (ISS) in order to determine if the SUNY Plattsburgh health insurance coverage and fees can be waived.

 

• If you don't have a comparable health insurance plan, you must purchase the health insurance plan offered by SUNY Plattsburgh.
• If you have a comparable health insurance plan, the staff in ISS will help you waive the health insurance fees.
