Men's Hockey Blows Out Trinity for Cardinal Classic Championship

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The second-ranked Plattsburgh State men's hockey team dominated visiting Trinity (Conn.) in all phases of their Cardinal Classic championship game on Saturday and the Cardinals easily won the tournament crown, 9-0, at the Stafford Ice Arena. The result marked the largest margin of victory this season for the Cardinals, who improve to 9-1-2. The Bantams (5-3-1) suffer their worst loss since a 10-1 setback at Babson on Jan. 20, 2001. Host Plattsburgh, Trinity (Conn.) to Meet in Men's Hockey Cardinal Classic Championship

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Freshman Ian DeLong scored a career-high three points and defenseman Ryan Corry added three assists to power No. 2-ranked Plattsburgh State to a crushing 8-1 defeat of visiting Castleton State in the Cardinal Classic Semifinals at Stafford Ice Arena on Friday. The Cardinals, who rang in The New Year with their best offensive output at home this season, improve to 8-1-2 after being idle since Dec. 4. The Spartans drop to 1-6-2.  [read more]

Alumnus, Sabres Equipment Manager Dave Williams Featured on NHL.com

BUFFALO, N.Y. - SUNY Plattsburgh graduate Dave Williams '95, who is the equipment manager for the Buffalo Sabres, is profiled on NHL.com for the Inside the Equipment Room segment. With the third annual 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic being played on Saturday between the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins at Fenway Park, NHL.com staff writer John McGourty spoke to Williams about how he prepared for the day and what he learned. Misiak Earns Second Nod to Coaches' All-America Team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Plattsburgh State junior back Bart Misiak (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Martin's Secondary) has received NCAA Division III All-America First Team accolades from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Misiak is one of just two defenders and 10 players overall to repeat on the 43-member all-start squad that includes three teams. A third-team choice as a sophomore, he also becomes the first Cardinal in four seasons (Jason Sousa from 2003 to 2005) to win multiple All-America citations and joins John McDonagh (1981-82) as the only two-time All-America defenders in school history. Williams Nets First Career SUNYAC Weekly Honor in Men's Track

FREDONIA, N.Y. - Plattsburgh State freshman Nate Williams was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference's male indoor track athlete of the week on Monday, for the period ending Sunday. He is the first Cardinals student-athlete, male or female, to receive the award this season. [read more]

Cardinal Men's Track Has Solid Season Opener at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State men's track and field team opened its 2009-10 indoor season at the St. Lawrence Holiday Relays and already qualified its 4x200-meter relay team for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at the end of the season. The quartet, consisting of Justin Bieber, Brian Drollette, Nate Williams and Peter Hamm, finished the race in third-place in a time of 1:33.60. [read more]

Junior Duo Tabbed to Men's Soccer Coaches' All-Region First Team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Plattsburgh State juniors Bart Misiak and Chris Taylor have been named first-team All-East Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the organization announced on Friday. Cardinals Rank 57th in Learfield/NACDA Fall Standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cardinal Athletics is in a 57th place tie with 75 points among all NCAA Division III institutions after the second release Thursday of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup fall standings by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Plattsburgh State sent its men's and women's soccer teams to the NCAA tournament in the same season for the first time in school history. The men advanced to the second round to receive 50 points and a credit for 17th place in the event. The women made its first national appearance since 1995, credited 25 points and a tie for 33rd in the tournament.

The cross country squads sent three individuals to the national meet last month, but their performances do not figure into the NACDA standings.

The directors' cup is based on a school's finish in NCAA Championships.
