Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball has been a part of Plattsburgh State University athletics since 1921. Through the years, the Cardinals have represented the University with many regionally and nationally successful teams, including NCAA Tournament appearances, an NCAA Final Four finish (1975), and an ECAC Championship (1998). The Cardinals compete in one of the top athletic conferences in the nation, the State University of New York Athletic Conference ( SUNYAC ), and the conference champion gains automatic entry into the NCAA Championship Tournament.

Women's Basketball
The Women's Basketball team has steadily grown into a conference and regional power, setting a new standard of excellence as recently as 2002 with a team-record 16 wins. The Cardinals play an exciting brand of basketball, mixing up-tempo transition play with an emphasis on solid defense and ball control. The team carries a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 15 players who compete in 25 regular season games leading into post-season.
