A Growing Regional Power
The women's basketball team has steadily grown into a conference and regional power, setting a new standard of excellence as recently as 2002 with a team-record 16 wins. The Car dinals play an exciting brand of basketball, mixing up-tempo transition play with an emphasis on solid defense and ball control. The team carries a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 15 players who compete in 25 regular season games leading into post-season.
Plattsburgh State annually hosts the Cardinal Classic, one of the top season-opening tournaments in the state. The team has come to not only expect post-season play, but to advance and has an eye on the coveted conference championship. The Cardinals compete in one of the top athletic conferences in the nation, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC ), and the conference champion gains automatic entry into the NCAA Championship Tournament.
The women's basketball team, like all intercollegiate athletics teams at Plattsburgh State, focuses on a commitment to competitive excellence, academic achievement, and community service.
