Cardinal Women Fall to TCNJ in NCAA First Round
Amherst, Mass. - Though they fought hard through the rainy, muddy conditions, the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team failed to find solid footing against the College of New Jersey Lions and lost, 2-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Cardinals end their season with a record of 10-6-3, while TCNJ continues on with a record of 17-2-1.

Brittany McGinley followed up in the 32nd minute with an insurance goal for the Lions after receiving a cross from the right side from teammate Allyson Anderson.
The Lions kept the Cardinals from recording any shots during the first half, though they did post 12 of their own. Overall, TCNJ outshot Plattsburgh 25 to three. Plattsburgh posted the better shots on goal ratio however, as they forced Lion goalie Jessica Clark to make two saves while Alina Greiser grabbed six for the Cardinals.

September 23, 2009No. 3 Ephs Best No. 11 Cardinals in Battle of Nationally Ranked TeamsWILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The visiting Plattsburgh State women's soccer team proved its mettle among the nation's best on Wednesday, but host Williams was up to the task in dealing the Cardinals their first loss of the season, 3-0. The Cardinals, who are ranked No. 11 by D3soccer.com and No. 17 in the NSCAA coaches' poll, fall to 6-1 while the third-ranked Ephs improve to 6-0.Annelise Snyder paced Williams with two goals in the second half and an assist. Sara Wild gave the Ephs all the offense they would need in the 11th minute, curling a free kick into the top-left corner after Bret Eisenhart was fouled just outside the 18-yard box.In the 22nd minute of play, Plattsburgh nearly knotted the game 1-1 when Helen Giroux took a free kick after a foul that nailed the cross bar.The Cardinals had 12 shots for the game and pushed a stingy defense that has given up one goal all season. "This was the first time we have seen a really high pressure situation, and when we're playing a team that is that good...", you have to be calm.Williams' Sachi Siegelman preserved the shutout in the final minute of play, when Plattsburgh's Erin Norris had an open look from beyond the 18-yard box. Norris ripped the ball to goal, and Siegelman headed out the ball that would have scored otherwise.Plattsburgh starting goalkeeper Alina Greiser made one save and Ricci Celia played the final 58 minutes while stopping seven shots. For Williams, Julia Schreiber and Lauren Sinnenberg combined for three saves to record the team shutout.Plattsburgh State (6-1) vs.

Coach Karen Waterbury:
"Our team continues to build upon its successes and, simply put, we have a great group of hardworking and talented young ladies that bring a real welcoming attitude to the program," commented Waterbury. "Having the team average above a 3.0 GPA each semester last year shows how motivated of a group they are, as well as their top-rankings nationally for goals-against and scoring offense last season."
For Waterbury, what helps set the Plattsburgh State program apart from its competition is,
- 21 NSCAA Regional All-Americans, 82 All-SUNYAC honorees, six CoSIDA Academic All-District players, one SUNYAC Player of the Year, and three SUNYAC Rookie of the Year winners
