Plattsburgh State Women's Soccer
About the Cardinals Program
The women's soccer team has almost "done it all" since becoming an intercollegiate varsity sport at Plattsburgh State in 1979.
Since that time the Cardinals have competed in postseason tournaments in 21 of their 29 seasons of existence, registered 24 winning seasons and compiled a 309-177-29 record for a .629 winning percentage all-time.
Since coach Karen Waterbury's arrival in 1990, the team has established an even higher benchmark for success
16 postseason appearances (NCAA , ECAC six times, SUNYAC six times and NYSWCAA seven times)
A 222-124-20 record (.634) ranks her among the winningest top 20 active coaches in the nation
The team competes in one of the top athletic conferences in the nation, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC ), and the conference champion gains an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
Coach Karen Waterbury:
"The Plattsburgh State women's soccer program has developed a tradition of leadership, excellence, and quality experiences. We work hard for your successes and can feel good about the accomplishments gained over the past few years.
"In just the past seven seasons we've won an ECAC
Championship, a SUNYAC
Championship, a NY State (NYSWCAA
) championship, and made the team's first NCAA
appearance.
"Also in that time two of our players earned national recognition as Academic All-Americans, a rare honor bestowed on the finest scholar-athletes in the nation. Our team typically holds a grade-point average better than the general student population.
"Every three years we take a foreign tour during the spring semester. In 2001, we traveled and competed in Scotland and three years later, we did the same in Brazil. Overall, our program is defined by its balance. Balancing academic priorities with athletic commitments, and balancing the perseverance required to win with the love and fun of playing the game."
