In No. 1 singles play, Dupell surprised the top-seed Vivian Cheung from Geneseo by taking the first set, 6-4.  But she couldn't sustain her momentum as Cheung came back to win the second and third sets, 6-0 and 6-2, to capture their quarterfinal match.

TROY, N.Y.--  The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team lost an 8-1 decision Sunday on the road to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).  The Cardinals drop to 1-6 while the Engineers up their record to 5-1 on the season.

Freshman Kristen Casse claimed a win for Plattsburgh at No. 6 singles over Rachel Smith in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

No. 1 singles seed Valerie Papi lost a hard fought match to her opponent Progga Das.  Das took the first set without losing a game, 6-0, but Papi came back in the second to win, 7-6, on the tiebreaker 7-4.  But Das regrouped in the deciding super tiebreaker 10-4.

Below are the results of the individual matches by seed, first singles and then doubles:

2. Christine Roe (RPI) def. Morgan Dupell: 6-2, 6-1
3. Andrea Dalton (RPI) def. Katelyn Rogers: 6-4, 6-0

"We battled for every point today. The first and second doubles teams were in a position to win their matches against some very talented RPI players," Plattsburgh head coach Mark Stata said.

"In singles we also had two strong matches from Valerie and Kristen.  Valerie did a good job coming back after getting shut out in the first set.  If the match had been a full third set, I think it could have been a different story (for her).  Kristin worked hard for every point and had a solid win at No. 6 singles."
