"We battled for every point today. The first and second doubles teams were in a position to win their matches against some very talented RPI players," Plattsburgh head coach Mark Stata said.
"In singles we also had two strong matches from Valerie and Kristen. Valerie did a good job coming back after getting shut out in the first set. If the match had been a full third set, I think it could have been a different story (for her). Kristin worked hard for every point and had a solid win at No. 6 singles."

Women's Tennis Overview
Consistently one of the top teams in the conference with top three finishes in 1999 and 2000 and a runner-up finish in 2001, the Plattsburgh State women's tennis team is currently experiencing the highest levels of achievement in program history.
In Fall 2006, the Cardinals had three All-State University of New York Athletic Conference performers (Tiarra Garrow, 1st team; Ashley Smith, 2nd team; Ashley Abar, 2nd team) for the most in a single year during the Mark Stata coaching era. Garrow captured a SUNYAC title at No. 3 singles as a freshman, and Smith was the conference's Fall Term Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award winner in her sport. Plattsburgh finished in fifth place--and only two points out of fourth--at the SUNYAC Championships.
Over the past few seasons, the Cardinals have been ranked among the top 15 teams in New York State and have crowned numerous singles and doubles conference champions. The team competes in both the fall and spring seasons and carries a maximum roster of 12 players competing for six singles positions and three doubles positions.
The women's tennis team, like all intercollegiate athletics teams at Plattsburgh State, focuses on a commitment to competitive excellence, academic achievement, and community service.
