New Sports Club Approval Process

  1. Make an appointment with Recreational Sports Coordinator (Mrs. Bardon, 314 Memorial Hall, E-Mail: bardonle@plattsburgh.edu ), Tel: 518-564-4150 to discuss feasibility of a new club in terms of facilities, purpose, cost and risk factors.

    1. A sports club can be formed to meet a need and interest of a group of students in a particular sport area not already met through the intercollegiate program.
    2. A sports club is a student-lead club whereby members accept the responsibility for the majority of the organization and training and some of the financial costs of the club.
    3. The Recreational Sports Coordinator will be the advisor as well as supervisor of all sports clubs.
  2. Development of proposal in coordination with Recreational Sports Coordinator that covers the following:

    1. Club purpose (competitive, recreational, instructional)
    2. Club organizational structure & student leadership positions
    3. Minimum/maximum membership numbers
    4. Long range viability
    5. Long range student leadership
    6. Rules and regulations
    7. Safety regulations
    8. Equipment requirements (What members are expected to supply and what is expected to be budgeted from the Student Association through budget process).
    9. Facility needs and availability
    10. Development of financial plan
    11. Availability of opponents within a 300 mile radius, if competitive
    12. Length of season
  3. Once the proposal has the primary approval of the Recreational Sports Coordinator, an information/interest meeting will be scheduled.

  4. If student interest is demonstrated at the informational meeting, the Recreational Sports Coordinator will review the club's proposal for final approval and forward approval and spproved proposal to Student Association under the sports club umbrella.

  5. The Recreational Sports Coordinator will budget for the club in the next Student Association budget cycle.

  6. All required paperwork will be submitted to Recreational Sports Coordinator. All financial aspects of the club must be signed and submitted to the Recreational Sports Coordinator before processed by Student Association.
