Non-Credit Lifeguarding/Waterfront Renewal

One day upgrade workshop open to individuals holding current Lifeguarding/Waterfront/ First Aid. Individuals must pass written test, pre-requisite swim test and all Lifeguard/ Waterfront/ first aid skills. With the release of the new Lifeguard program (07), Waterfront is valid for only 3 years and all individuals must renew waterfront. This upgrade does not renew CPR for Professional Rescuer certification.

Fall 2008 Non-Credit Lifeguard Training Renewal

Date of Program: Saturday, November 22 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Registration by: Friday, November 20

Spring 2009 Non-Credit Lifeguard Training Renewal

Date of Program: Saturday April 25, 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Registration by: Friday, April 23

Who May Enroll?

Open to certified lifeguards who have current certifications in lifeguard training/waterfront/First Aid. 

General Information

Cost: $55.00 Participants should review current book (.07). The book may be purchased at the Plattsburgh State Bookstore or any Red Cross office.

Course Format:

  1. Written test (participants must pass each section at 80%)
  2. Testing of first aid skills
  3. Swim test:
    1. 550 yards (200 Front Crawl with rhythmic breathing, 200 Breast (using pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence), 150 Front Crawl or Breast) 20 yard back and forth swim with surface
    2. 20 yard back and forth swim with surface dive to retrieve a 10# brick from depth of 7-10 feet (Timed event)
    3. Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4-7 feet of water; resurface and swim 5 yards to side of the pool.
  4. Testing of all lifeguard skills

    Note: This document requires Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download .
  2. Bring enrollment form, registration fee, and copy of current certifications in Lifeguard training/First Aid and Waterfront to 314 Memorial Hall
  3. Enrollments will be accepted Monday - Friday (8:30 a.m. - noon and 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.)
  4. Checks must be made payable to Plattsburgh State.
  5. Mail enrollment form, registration fee and copy of current certification to Department of Sport and Wellness, 101 Broad Street, Plattsburgh State, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
  6. Enrollments will be accepted on a first-come-first-enrolled basis.
  7. Individual will only be contacted if we are unable to enroll you.
