Saturday Morning Youth Learn to Swim Program
The Youth Learn to Swim is open to children of the college community and the general public.
The Saturday morning nine-week program is structured to improve the swimming skills of children to make them safe in and around the water.
Each session is 45-minutes.
Cost: $40 per student
Fall: 2008 Schedule
Dates of Program: September 6,13,20,27 October 4 (No class October 11), October 18,25 November 1,8
Registration Dates: August 1 - September 3

Dates of Program:
January 31, February 7,14,21,28 March 7 (No Classes March 14 & 21), March 28, April 4, 11

Who May Enroll?
The program is open to the public.
Pre-Requisite
Children must be 5 years of age, 47 inches tall and comfortable in water (able to go underwater).
General Information
What Level Do I Sign My Child Up For?
Passed previous level or have the following skills:
Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills - Beginning entry level- knows little or no strokes: Learns to float and begins to learn to move through water on the front & back
Level 3: Stroke Development - Should be very comfortable in the water, move through the water without support and be able to jump into shallow water. Teaches coordination of front and back crawl, introduces butterfly kick and works on deep water safety.
Level 4: Stroke Improvement - Should have some coordination of front and back crawl and be comfortable in deep water. Teaches Improvement of skills and distance for front & back crawl, builds on butterfly, introduces elementary back stroke, and kicks for breaststroke and sidestroke
Level 5: Stroke Refinement - Should be able to do one length of front and back crawl, know the elementary back and tread water for one-minute. Students work on refinement of skills and greater distance. Flip turns are introduced.
Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency - For students who have passed level 5.Should be able to do 2 lengths each of front and back crawl and one length of elementary back, breaststroke and sidestroke. This course continues to refine strokes so students swim them more efficiently and over greater distance. In addition to the above, the course will work on Lifeguard Readiness skills during the fall and Fitness and competitive swimming skills and in the spring.
First Class: Parents and children will meet with the instructors in the pool bleachers for the first 10 minutes of the class you registered for. Children will then change and will be skill tested to ensure your child is in the appropriate level. Children should not leave valuables in unlocked lockers in the locker rooms while they are swimming

How to Register

- Bring enrollment form and registration fee in person to 314 Memorial Hall (main office). View Campus Map .
- Enrollments will be accepted Monday -Friday (8:30 a.m. - noon and 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.)
- Checks must be made payable to Plattsburgh State.
- Mail enrollment form and registration fee to Department of Sport and Wellness, 101 Broad Street, Plattsburgh State, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
- Enrollments will be accepted on a first -come-first-enrolled basis.
- Participants will only be contacted if we are unable to accommodate your requested time.
- $40.00 per student.
- Once a child is enrolled in the Learn to Swim program, there will be NO REFUND unless the child is unable to continue due to a medical problem. (There will be a $10.00 processing fee charge for any refund.)
