The Library Proficiency Exam is a proctored exam, administered utilizing Moodle. By passing the proficiency exam you meet the Information Technology General Education requirement, but do not receive the credit hour.
If you are not a branch campus student, please see library information.
The exam will be held in the Regional Higher Education Center, room 147. Please remember to bring your Plattsburgh at ACC picture ID. Also, please be sure that you know how to log into ACC campus computers as well as your Plattsburgh NetID and password. If you do not know how to do this, please check with Michelle Howland in our office.
You must register for the Library Proficiency exam prior to Monday October 24, 2016.
Anyone who has never received ANY grade for LIB105 or LIB200 is eligible to proficiency out of the Information Technology General Education requirement by passing the Library Proficiency Exam. To clarify, you are not eligible to take the Proficiency Exam if you already have a W or a grade for another library course on your transcript.
A student may take the Library Proficiency Exam only once.
You are prepared for the exam if you've done a lot of research in the Feinberg Library, using print and electronic sources, or if you've done significant research at comparable university libraries and are also familiar with Feinberg's specific resources and services. The exam also covers basic concepts and skills in academic computing and software commonly used by students at SUNY Plattsburgh.
You can also prepare by reading the library text Information Literacy & Technology by Carla J. List. The text is available at the SUNY Adirondack Library. One copy (2013) is on reserve at the Library's Circulation Desk for in-library use. The library also has two circulating copies that you may borrow for a two-week loan.
Students will know immediately after finishing the 50 question multiple choice exam whether they have passed. If they pass they have fulfilled the Information Technology General Education requirement.
You can only take the exam once. If you have received a grade for LIB105 or 200, including a "W" then you are not eligible to take the exam. If you do not pass the exam you will need to sign up for a section of the LIB105 course.
