Virus Blocking and Intercepts

Last Update: 3/24/04

Not much has changed with respect to the state of infected e-mails being sent to our campus.  Viruses that use .zip files are still a problem.
As such, Network Operations will continue to block all email messages that contain .zip attachments.  These files will be intercepted and stored in a quarantine directory  for review.  If the files are deemed safe, they will be delivered to the original recipient within two business days.  If you are expecting a .zip file and you need it sooner, please contact Hap Wheeler (wheeleff@plattsburgh.edu ).
If you frequently get or are expecting any .zip file attachments, we would recommend you contact the sender and have them rename the file, appending .tmp at the end of it.  For more information on how to do this, please see:

Thank you for your time.
