Anthropology Collection Policies
Clientele:
The Anthropology collection serves the needs of undergraduates in the Anthropology Department and in General Education and faculty in support of instruction. There are about 6 faculty members directly involved in teaching anthropology. The following areas are also related to the collection: Latin American Studies, area/country studies, history, sexuality, psychology, education, sociology, and medicine.
Existing Collections:
Plattsburgh's Anthropology collection includes cultural and physical anthropology and archaeology. The collection contains current materials as well as older materials. The chronological coverage is broad, covering all eras of human existence. The geographical focus is on the U.S., with a minor focus on the rest of the world. Ethnographics (which are often classed in History) are included from a variety of countries.
Current Collecting:
We currently collect materials to support specific course offerings by the department. Preference is given to materials that are accessible to students. Textbooks are not collected. Issue-oriented ethnographics, for example "Poverty in (name of country)" are preferred, focusing on countries that are currently the subject of courses.
Subjects Covered:
- LC classes GF through GT
