Biological Sciences Collections Policies
Clientele:
The Biological Sciences collection serves three programs in the Biological Sciences Department: Liberal Arts Biology (for pre-professional programs and research), Cellular Biochemistry (including biotechnology) and Medical Technology (for medical laboratories, etc.). Teaching faculty (in support of instruction) and undergraduates are served About 11 faculty members are directly involved in teaching in the Biological Sciences Department. The recent transfer of the Cellular Biochemistry Program to the campus has increased the user population. The following areas are also related to the collection: Chemistry, Environmental Science, and the Miner Institute collection.
Existing Collections:
Plattsburgh's Biological Sciences collection is generally strong in biology, particularly of invertebrates, and in some areas of cellular biochemistry. Materials in the collection are predominantly less than 10 years old, and geographically focused on the U.S. The collection includes experimental and technical materials.
Current Collecting:
We currently collect materials in the categories above, with an emphasis on strengthening the collection in cellular biochemistry, zoology, pharmacology and ethnobotany.

Access to the Miner Institute collection is essential to our biochemistry collection.
