Communication Disorders Collections Policies
Clientele:
The Communication Disorders collection serves the curricular needs of undergraduates and their instructors, and masters/CAS level graduate research and curricular needs in speech-language-hearing handicapped education and in communication disorders and sciences. Courses in the department focus on the scientific bases of the nature of human communication, its development, disorders, assessment and remediation. A change in major from a BA/BS in Hearing and Speech Science focusing on audiology and speech-language pathology to a BA/BS in Communication Disorders and Sciences recently occurred. The MA in audiology is no longer offered. The department has experienced a 31% increase in the number of undergraduate majors in recent years. There are about 8 faculty members directly involved in teaching courses in communication disorders. The following areas are also related to the collection: clinical medical materials relating to communication disorders, psychology of disability materials, developmental psychology.
Existing Collections:
Materials in the collection include mainly current U.S. theory and practice, with some historical works in U.S. theory and practice. There is a solid core of material on communication disorders. The complete ERIC documents collection and ERIC and PsychLit Databases are available to users.
Current Collecting:
We currently focus on clinical materials relating to communication disorders and practical teaching materials for speech-language-hearing disabled students.
