English Collections Policies

Clientele:

The English collection serves the curriculum, and general education needs of undergraduates in the English Department and in the liberal arts program, and faculty in support of instruction. The English MA option has been discontinued, but graduate level courses are offered as part of the MA in liberal studies. There are about 17 faculty members directly involved in teaching English.

Existing Collections:

Plattsburgh's English collection includes literature in English from the earliest writings in the language to the most recent, encompassing all genres as well as criticism and interpretation. The collection is strongest for certain authors, notably Shakespeare, Twain, and V. Woolf.  Bestsellers are regularly purchased.

Current Collecting:

We are currently collecting in all areas mentioned above, with an emphasis on modern fiction and poetry, culturally diverse fiction, and criticism. The collection's major geographical focus is on materials published in the U.S., with some collecting from Britain, Ireland and Canada. Literature in hypertext is of current interest, also.
