Environmental Science Collections Policies
Clientele:
The Environmental Science collection serves the needs of undergraduates in the program, and faculty in support of instruction. The program concentrates on the science of the environment, including research in environmental chemistry, the Lake Champlain Basin and the Adirondacks. The applied environmental science program at the Miner Institute provides access to the research laboratory of the Adirondacks. The L.C.R. I. studies the aquatic features of Lake Champlain, including pollution, chemistry, runoff, zebra mussels, etc. In the last five years, the program has seen an increase in majors. There are about 14 faculty members directly involved in teaching environmental science. The following areas are also related to the collection: Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science and Geography.
Existing Collections:
Plattsburgh's Environmental Science collection includes mostly English language materials. Older materials on the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain are also retained. Materials covering all eras of the scientific history of these areas are collected. Geographically, the collection has a U.S. focus, with a minor focus on Canada. Experimental and laboratory materials have been collected.
Current Collecting:
We currently collect materials in the categories above. L.C.R.I. research interests, such as water pollution and zebra mussels, are a future growth area for the collection.
