Geography Collections Policies

Clientele:

The Geography collection serves the needs of undergraduates in the department and in the general education program, and faculty in support of instruction. There are has been a decline in majors in recent years, and the faculty is supporting general education students to a greater extent. There are about 3 faculty members directly involved in teaching geography.  The following areas are also related to the collection: Environmental Science; History; Canadian Studies; Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management, and Economics.

Existing Collections:

Plattsburgh's Geography collection supports the program's goal of providing a broad background in physical, cultural and regional geography, as well as cartography and computer mapping. The collection covers all of these areas. Materials are mainly current and in English.

Current Collecting:

Materials are purchased to support general education courses. We collect materials with a contemporary focus, and with either a U.S. or global geographical focus. Possible growth areas for the collection are EcoTourism, tourism in general, and recreation.
